Routines That Build Confident Readers-Even in the Summer

Children thrive when there’s structure, and even the simplest routines can keep their literacy skills growing. Think of the routine like watering a plant: just a little each day keeps it thriving.

Here’s a simple literacy routine you can try this summer:

  • Morning Read-Aloud: Start the day by reading a short story or picture book together. It sparks curiosity and builds vocabulary.

  • Midday Reading Time: Choose 15–20 minutes for independent or partner reading. Make it cozy—think blanket forts or some time at a park.

  • Evening Reflection: Encourage your child to draw or write about their day, a story they read, or something they’re curious about.

These small, consistent habits help children stay confident and connected to learning—even outside the classroom.

Enjoy your summer!
